Whirlwind trip to Florida!

Last month, Chris got a request to do some work down in Sarasota, Florida, so we decided to make a whole weekend out of it! Between work and school, life is a little crazy, and some fun was needed! We flew into Orlando on Friday morning, and drove to his project site in Sarasota. Obviously, it wasn't "take your wife to work day," so I dropped him at the building and went to find something to do. Not wanting to stray too far in an unfamiliar place, I found a little waterfront area with a walking path along the water.

I ran out of path quickly, so I just started following the sidewalk, and ended up at the Marie Selby Botanical Garden.I'm not a huge fan of flower gardens (much preferring the edible type of gardens!), but I figured it would be a nice way to spend the afternoon. According to the website, and the 4-minute video that's on continuous loop in a strange little theatre next to the entrance, the garden is known for its collection of orchids. They also have a lot of epiphytes (some plants are both epiphytes AND orchids). An epiphyte, I learned, is a plant that grows on another plant without taking any nutrition from it. Here are some of the neat flowers and plants I saw...
