When we're home, we're doing the homeowner stuff like cleaning the closets out (well, me cleaning my closet... Chris doesn't like to have many clothes, so he never really has any to clean out! Oh how I wish I was the same!!). We also cleaned up the yard for the winter, raked out some of the old plant beds, and schemed how to plant even more edibles next spring!
Last weekend, we took a trip to Chicago. It was fun - but tiring! Friday night, we went to see Second City, a comedy group that often loses writers (and maybe actors?) to Saturday Night Live! They were really funny, and I finally got to meet Alison, Chris's coworker who he speaks so highly of. The three of us had a great time. We went to Andy's for dinner, which is apparently quite a famous little jazz spot! Chris and I aren't really in to jazz, but knowing Chicago is proud of their jazz tradition, we thought it'd be cool to partake.
Saturday, we went to the Museum of Science and Industry, which we both loved. Chris hadn't been there since he was about 6 years old, and he was a little worried that he wouldn't love it as much as he did back then. He was so wrong! We had a great time at the museum! One of the exhibits that we loved the most was the Smart Home, which was a home made to be as sustainable as possible through the architecture, building, maintenance and landscaping. It was really cool to see, especially the fact that they had polished concrete counter tops in the kitchen - which is just like we have!
Another really fun exhibit that we went to was Jim Henson's Fantastic World. Having both grown up with Sesame Street, Muppet Babies, and Fraggle Rock, we loved it!
We came home from Chicago, did a load of laundry and worked for a day, and then flew down to Washington, D.C. for Thanksgiving. It was great to see how happy Chris' mom was to have all three of her kids home for Thanksgiving. This is the year that we'll travel to Arkansas for Christmas, so being able to have everyone together in DC was perfect. It was a group effort to put together an amazing spread for dinner, and everyone left the table stuffed to the gills. (Well, at least I did!)
This weekend, I'll continue my extensive studying for anatomy and physiology, as well as a few other "house projects." I'm also going to run tomorrow morning as a volunteer for "DreamFar Marathon Team." Dreamfar is a program in a few Massachusetts high schools that helps students train for the Providence Marathon in May. It's a really great program that allows the kids to learn all sorts of great lessons while training for a marathon! Read more here.
Well, time to hit the books... or maybe skip the books and spend some time in my long lost kitchen...
