Wine and Worms. Vino and vermin.

Since beginning Phase 2 of the South Beach diet, we've been drinking wine. Red wine. Lots of red wine. Well, lots of red wine for us. And I never really even liked it! Now, I love it! Last night, we drank a wonderful bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau. It was fantastic. Tonight, we drank an Argentinian Shiraz that we bought for a whole $3, and we're now drinking a bottle of Rodney Strong 2000 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. I think I like the $3 bottle better. The Rodney Strong is a bit too oakey.

And by the way, this is the first flavor I've identified in a wine. Oakey. Have you ever been in a room with a bunch of oak (light wood) barrels? Well, this wine tastes a lot like that smell. I won't dump it, I'm just noticing it. Interestingly enough, the oak is strong, but the wine is very smooth. It doesn't get you in the back corners of your mouth like some wines do. I don't know how this is technically described...

The Beaujolais last night was terrific! A great sweetness, just enough acidity. Yum.

These are my wine reviews! Like 'em?

And now, for the vermin!

We've decided to expand the vermicomposting! We had two extra bins that would be perfect for vermicomposting, so, Chris drilled a few holes in it, and as soon as our little wrigglers make some more dirt in the original bin, I'm going to split them into two! This will allow us (me) to compost even more of our vegetable scraps and have even more liquid gold compost for the spring gardens! Early this fall, I separated a lot of the worms from the compost and added a bunch of it to the gardens. Strangely enough, this compost has absolutely zero smell to it! It's almost like playing with a smooth, fine, semi-dry mud. It's wonderful! With our extra eager plans for the 2011 garden, I'm SO excited to have even more of this amazing rich compost! And, I love having a husband who not only allows the worms in the basement, but encourages me to have even more!
