We arrived at 6 AM and did a ton of set up "stuff" from putting tape all around the tables to prevent people from sticking their hands on them, to setting out chairs at the tents, and finally, the big fun stuff, was helping all of the food vendors to empty their vehicles and run all of their stuff to the tents. It was organized chaos, but lots of fun. I wish I had time to take more photos, but being the take-charge person that I am, I ended up being somewhat of a leader for when the vendors came in. The way that it worked was a vendor would pull up, we'd find their name and location. Their vehicle would be unloaded, and everything would be moved to their site. Sounds simple, but the organizers never ended up getting one of the permits for a huge space - a very busy bridge that the city of Boston decided not to close - so things were all screwed up.
Overall, the event was a huge hit! It was absolutely PACKED! The first photo is of Mayor Tom Menino giving his blessing of the event, and talking about how important it is that people have fresh, healthy, local food. The second photo was of a local rib-shack, and their slogan made me laugh. So true!
Last but not least is this funny little structure... It's a chicken coop on wheels! I'm not 100% sure of the whole idea, but it's basically so you can have chickens in urban areas... I don't think this is on our shopping list any time soon!! Overall tons of fun!!
